- Description
- This paper describes a specific period of industrial conflict between a single workgroup - the B Shift operators- and their managers in the potrooms at the aluminium smelter at Kurri Kurri from about 2002 until the conflict was resolved in early 2007. Using extensive interview data, company records and documents, and AIRC documentation, we describe the process of conflict. We seek to explain the conflict process and its outcomes in terms of the institutional theory. Specifically, we investigate the impact of formal rules, particularly the specific terms of the Enterprise Agreement and their enforcement, and informal rules, in the form of the norms of the workgroup, on the nature of the conflict.
